Masai-Mara-wildlife-Migration

Embark on a captivating journey through the Rift Valley and Maasailand, perfect as a short tour or an extension of a Mount Kenya trekking adventure.

This tour showcases the stunning scenery, diverse wildlife, and rich cultures of the Kikuyu Highlands, Great Rift Valley Lakes, and Maasai savanna. To support community conservation and encourage locals to preserve their heritage, we include visits to community areas. Enjoy a side trip en route to the Maasai Mara for privileged insights into the fascinating way of life of the Maasai people. Experience quality game viewing in the park and the adjoining Siana Community Conservancy, where you can partake in hiking, sundowner outings, bush dinners, and night game drives.

Accommodation includes a mix of comfortable local hotels, lakeside chalets, permanent tented safari camps, and fully supported bush camps, allowing access to wilder areas. We prioritize health, safety, and reasonable comfort, and while we typically do not include luxury lodges, arrangements can be made for private group departures.

Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Journey to Nakuru / Coffee & Tea Farm Visit
After breakfast, embark on a 200 km (3-hour) journey to a community-run coffee and tea estate for lunch and a local farming experience. Enjoy a delicious farm lunch in a lush forest setting, guided bird-watching, and a visit to the tea and coffee processing operations. You can even try your hand at picking tea and coffee! In the evening, check in to a comfortable local hotel just outside Nakuru National Park for dinner and an early start the following morning. (Meals: L, D)

Day 2: Lake Nakuru National Park / Farm Visit
Start early (6:00 AM) for game drives in Lake Nakuru National Park. Though compact, the park is spectacular and teeming with wildlife, offering the best chance to see rare rhinos (both black and white), elusive leopards, and the unusual Rothschild's giraffe, along with vast herds of buffalo, gazelles, elands, and zebras. The park is also home to nearly 400 bird species, including thousands of flamingos adorning the lake's edge with their shimmering pink plumage. After a picnic lunch, journey to Lake Naivasha (50 km / 1.5 hours). En route, stop at Lake Elementaita for afternoon tea at a farmer’s home, visit their small farm, and explore the lakeside environment, where you’ll find thousands of pelicans nesting, hot springs, and fascinating eroded ash cones. Arrive at Lake Naivasha for overnight accommodation in chalets right by the lake. (B, L, D)

3: Boat Ride / Maasai Cultural Insights
Lake Naivasha, famous for its hippos and vibrant birdlife, including fish eagles, lovebirds, and pelicans, awaits you. Take an early morning boat trip to observe wildlife, disembarking at an animal sanctuary to walk among giraffes, zebras, impalas, gazelles, and waterbucks. Depart mid-morning for Maasailand, with a chance to visit a Maasai widow support home for lunch and gain insights into Maasai culture. Continue to our secluded camp in the Maasai Mara, enjoying wildlife viewing along the way. In the evening, drive partway up Naunare Hill for a memorable sundowner outing as you watch the sun set over the Mara, with a snack to enjoy. Enthusiastic trekkers can hike to the top for a fabulous view. Weather permitting, enjoy a brief night game drive within the Siana Wildlife Conservancy for a chance to observe nocturnal wildlife (no extra cost, but please advise us in advance). Dinner and overnight at our comfortable permanent tented safari camp with en-suite facilities. (B, L, D)

Day 4: Full Day Game Drive in Maasai Mara
Dedicate the day to game viewing in the Maasai Mara, known as the seventh wonder of the modern world. This extension of the Serengeti features breathtaking vistas, vast rolling plains, acacia woodlands, and the riverine ecosystem of the Mara River. The plains teem with herds of grazing game and their associated predators. Expect to see elephants, buffalo, lions, cheetahs, leopards, zebras, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, and a plethora of other wildlife. Our expert naturalist guides and sturdy vehicles ensure the best chance of sightings and understanding animal behaviors. (B, L, D)

Day 5: Morning Game Drive / Return to Nairobi
Enjoy another early morning game drive in the Mara before returning to camp for breakfast. Afterward, embark on the journey back to Nairobi. Upon arrival, enjoy a homemade lunch at our Rock House before proceeding with your next arrangements. (B, L)
